Driving in the dark is part of the Basic Traffic Course - Dark Demo Course.
If you have not completed the Dark Demo, the right to practice driving will only be valid until the 31st of January of the following year. This will be evident in the Basic Traffic Course certificate.
Once the dark driving demonstration has been completed, there will be no time limit on the certificate.
This is a separate and mandatory course for students over 25 years old.
Course duration: 240 min.
If you are under 25, the First Aid Course is included in the Basic Traffic Course.
The basic traffic course provides you with basic knowledge of traffic rules, risks and the role of the driver. It is the first step in the driver training programme and a prerequisite for starting driving lessons or practice driving.
Yes, the course is compulsory for anyone under the age of 25 who is taking a driving licence for the first time.
You can take the course from the age of 15 and you can start driving as a learner after the age of 16 - provided you have completed the course.
The course runs over 4 sessions in the summer and over 5 sessions in the winter - when the Dark Demo course is added. The course includes both theory and practical exercises.
The course consists of three main parts:
1. Road safety and traffic education
2. First aid course
Content of the first aid course:
3. Road user in the dark / Dark demo / Dark driving
The course is conducted with a traffic instructor and provides insight into how you as a road user can behave more safely in dark conditions.
Road user in the dark / dark demonstration / driving in the dark is a mandatory part of the basic traffic course and aims to make you aware of the risks of travelling in traffic in dark conditions.
The training takes place both in the classroom (the theory part) outside and in the car, where you as a passenger are shown typical risk situations and causes of accidents in the dark. You will gain insight into common risk factors and learn how you as a road user can contribute to increased safety.
The aim is to give you practical understanding and better judgement, so that you can travel more safely in traffic in different and demanding lighting conditions.
You do not drive yourself. The driving instructor is the one who demonstrates.
Important: If you are under the age of 25 and are taking a basic traffic course in the summer, the darkness demonstration must be completed by 31 October in order for your practice driving certificate to be valid.
The first aid course provides training in life-saving measures in the event of a road accident, as well as knowledge of the duties you have at an accident site. The course combines theory and practical exercises to give participants confidence in an emergency situation.
