If you want to get a driving licence, a basic traffic course is the first step on the road, at least if you're under 25. This course gives you a basic understanding of what it means to be a driver and a fellow road user, and is mandatory before you can start practice driving.
At Oslo Team Traffic School, we offer a safe and thorough course, led by experienced driving instructors. Here's an introduction to what you'll learn and why it's important.
A basic traffic course is a requirement to be able to practice driving
The basic traffic course is required for anyone who wants to start driving light vehicles such as cars, mopeds and motorcycles. The course can be taken from the age of 15, and it applies to both private practice driving and driving lessons at a traffic school.
Once you have completed the course, you will receive a course certificate that you must take with you when you go out to practise. You must also bring approved identification with you.
If you are 25 years or older, you do not have to complete parts of the course, but you must complete the first aid and night driving parts before you can continue your training.
What does the basic traffic course include?
The course is run over several sessions and covers both theory and practical elements. You do not need to have any prior knowledge to enrol. The basic traffic course is designed for those who are at the very beginning of the driving licence process.
The topics covered are:
- Traffic training and the role of the driver: How training is organised and what responsibilities you have as a driver
- People in traffic and interaction: how we affect each other in traffic and how good interaction makes the roads safer
- Practice driving and driving experience: why crowd training is important and how you should go about it
- First aid and duties in case of accidents: how to handle injuries and accidents, and what you are obliged to do
- Measures in the event of a traffic accident: specific review of how to act if you arrive first at the scene of an accident
- Driving in the dark (night driving): conducted as a separate session during the winter months
Night driving cannot be taken during the summer months. If you take the basic course between 16 March and 31 October, you will receive a temporary certificate until the night driving part is completed.
A good starting point for those heading out on the road
The basic driving course doesn't just give you the formal right to start driving. The course also gives you a professional and mental starting point that makes the rest of your training safer and more meaningful.
This course introduces you to both the practical and human aspects of travelling in traffic. You'll learn about responsibility, risk and assessment, and gain a clear understanding of what it takes to be a safe road user.
At Oslo Team Trafikkskole, you'll be taught by qualified driving instructors with extensive experience and the opportunity to ask questions along the way.
When should you enrol in a basic traffic course?
You can take a basic traffic course from the age of 15. Many people start as early as 10th grade, or as soon as they know they want to start the driving licence course. It's a good idea to take the course well before you plan to start practising driving, especially if you will be practising privately in addition to your driving lessons.
Oslo Team Trafikkskole holds regular courses throughout the year. The course runs over several evenings and you receive your course certificate immediately after completing the course, except for the night driving course, which must be taken in winter.
